As the digital age is rapidly on the rise and people are able to promote their businesses online and store their business contacts electronically, there is still a need for printed media such as business cards. Business cards are still necessary as there will always be people who prefer to have a visual hard copy reminder of your services.

Business cards visually stand out more than just a contact in your phone. They are also always obtainable, where as a phone contact isn’t if the phone is out of battery!

This is why you card really needs to stand out, otherwise why would anyone want to hold onto it. Make it a work of art, something that looks too good to throw away. This will help you stand out whether you are in a creative industry or not. If your card is well designed, visually attractive and printed on high quality material people will assume your service will also be of a high standard…. Obviously your service speaks for itself and needs to be of a high standard anyway! Your card doesn’t have to be limited to contact details it can be treated as mini advert, so always include relevant imagery.

Its also a good idea to leave a space on your card for writing notes, whether it be you writing more personal information on it, making your customer feel special or for them to write notes on it reminding them of why they need your services.

There are loads of options nowadays of material or types of cards to use. Try and choose something relevant to your business. You can choose a more photographic print if you are a photographer, thick paper is always a sign of good quality. You can have embossed cards, metallic cards, clear plastic cards. These are all ways of making your card visually stand out over your competition.

So, even though cards are declining in importance, they are still an important part of business!

As a graphic designer and artist I love being creative and designing cards that make a visual impact so get in touch if you would like me to create a card for your business.

Advertising is a huge industry and essential for all businesses in order to become and stay successful. The more competition you have the more you should advertise…. regularly. A visually attractive and appealing advert with all the right information will always stand out above something that looks cheap, uncreative and unclear. Not only is the design so important but if you are printing your advert, the quality of the print needs to needs to be one above your competitors.

Why should you advertise?

Consumers/buyers/customers must be aware of your company, as it is no good having an amazing product or service that nobody knows about. Let everyone know you exist!

Having an exceptional brand is one of the most important steps in advertising. This is your identity, your image. This is why it is so important to have a professional help create your brand… (your perceived emotional company image). A logo it an essential part of your brand or company image. See my previous blog about how to create a logo and why it’s so important.

There are always potential customers out there looking for the product or service you offer, so make sure they are aware of why your service/product is superior to any other company. All this information can be included on your advert, whether its on the television, through social media, a flyer, poster, banner, in a magazine or any other media you choose.

Once customers are familiar with your brand, they will trust you and think of you first. Advertising is necessary to make them familiar with you.

Your customers need to want to act now, instead of sometime in the future, which is why consistent, regular advertising offering ‘act now incentives’ is so important. Such as coupons, promotional codes, e-vouchers with expiry dates and limited time sales.

The more customer traffic is driven towards your company (busy shop, lots of website hits) the more your customers will notice your other services that they had been previously unaware of and that they just might need.

The more consistent and regular your advertising and the more visually attractive your advert is the more your sales will increase over companies that are not so consistent with less impressive artwork.

We offer graphic design and printing at Davenports Media and can help you create an outstanding advert for your company. So get in touch, have a browse through our website and let us know how we can help you.

Its that time of the year again where Valentines day is fast approaching and its time start thinking of your special valentines offers.

Companies and work places that would benefit from the valentines rush are florists, restaurants, cinemas, garden centres, photographers, printers, stationary stores, post offices, candy/chocolate stores, supermarkets, night clubs, health spas, hotels, taxi companies, lease hiring firms, marketing agencies and many more. Now is the time to get in the Graphic Design!

Why is a logo so important?

A great logo is essential for the branding of your company and should appeal to your customer and forever stand out in their memory! It will help people recognise your company. You want your logo to leave a lasting impression and for one day to reach household recognition, so consumers instantly recognise what your logo represents. Just think of some of the big names, I don’t even need to mention their logo for you to already know what it is, Nike, Apple, Coca Cola, Macdonalds….. This is why its so important you take the design of your logo seriously. Always hire a professional or someone with experience to help.

Obviously logo and brand alone will not make your company successful, you have to have a great product or service as well, but combing the two (product/brand) is essential to create a successful business with widespread visibility and success.

Logos should be strong, simple, clear, consistent, well-designed and memorable. If your logo is each of these things then it will look good on whatever media it is displayed on, web, print or TV.

Some companies like Ebay have evolved their logos a number of times over the years to have more of a contemporary look and style, while companies like Coca-Cola have barely changed their logo at all over the years.

Once your logo/brand and product/service has become successful your logo is all the consumer will need to see to trust the level of quality of the product or service they are consuming. They know what to expect and how they feel about you and are therefore more likely to choose you over a brand they don’t recognise.

If you would like me to design you a logo, please get in touch, Im Alexis the Graphic Design and Development Manager at Davenports Media x
